Designing a trail for Trolls: A Field Study

Trolls: A Field Study is an outdoor exhibition inviting visitors to become junior field researchers on the hunt for twelve enormous troll sculptures, crafted from recycled wood by artist Thomas Dambo.

Designed to spark curiosity and deepen children’s connection to the natural world, we were asked to create a trail treasure trail that looked like it had been made by trolls and helped bring the exhibition to life.

This included

  • Prompts that connect you to the nature around you

  • Fillable-inable activities

  • Illustrations and descriptions of each of the wooden trolls

  • A secret code to crack using a troll alphabet

  • A hand-drawn treasure map of the site

Activities were aligned with the Nature Connectedness Pathways developed by the University of Derby.

Co-developed with Tom Sears.
